Well, not in that way…
By email today, word that Gordon Kerry’s completion of the Mozart Requiem, which was premiered in Sydney earlier this year, will be broadcast on ABC Classic FM on the weekend.
Details: Saturday 13 December 2008
12.05pm on Weekend Life with Mairi Nicholson
The Sydney Chamber Choir is joined by the Sydney Children’s Choir with Penelope Mills (soprano), Sally-Anne Russell (mezzo-soprano), Christopher Saunders (tenor) and Stephen Bennett, bass. Richard Gill conducts.
First up on the program: Victoria’s Tenebrae Responses; then about 25 minutes in, the Requiem.
This is not a completition in the tradition of Süssmayr or his modern counterparts such as Franz Beyer or Robert Levin. No imitation Mozart, then. Instead Kerry sets verses by Chris Wallace-Crabbe, Gwen Harwood, John Kinsella and Les Murray, which are sung as interpolations by the Children’s Choir. There is a striking reference at one point to Don Giovanni (also in D minor).
Definitely worth listening to, so tune your wireless or listen online by following the ABC Classic FM link above and clicking "Listen Now". Kerry’s Sinfonietta: like meteors from elysium can be heard here.
